  • Weird fonts in Finder on Snow Leopard 10.6

Posted on September 21st, 2009 david 1 comment

Hey, so after getting Snow Leopard installed I changed a lot of things around, one of which is the fonts that the OS uses located in System Preferences -> Language & Text.

The default is “English” along with a whole list of supported languages that the system can use. So I removed them all and added “British English” as the only language to use.

All seamed well but when I perform a Finder search, some of the default system applications are displayed in Finder in what appears to be Japanese characters. Very annoying but it does not effect the application and the text the application uses is in English when the app is running.

There is a very simple fix for this. Add “English” to the list of languages in “System Preferences -> Language & Text” and log out and log back in. Finder will now display apps in English…

Thanks, this had been bugging me & I couldn’t solve it. I even did a reinstall to no avail. Of course the answer was obvious once I’d seen it.
