IE8 and a broken Terminal Server Client Plugin
Posted on July 10th, 2009 3 commentsSo those of you on Windows may be very familiar with IE 8, the latest version of the Microsoft Web Browser. I’m not really going to talk about it in general (or diss it rather
) but what I am going to talk about is a small issue that you may have when you update it from IE7. If you have the Terminal Server Client plugin enabled when you do the update, the plugin might not work. This can be the case if you a trying to log into you computer, say at work using Remote Web Workplace. I have noticed that although the plugin is enabled it will not work for some reason. To fix this so that you can log into your remote machine using RWW. First- In IE8, go to Tools, then Internal Options. Then to the programs tab, and Manage Addons at the bottom of the window.
- In there you are greeted with the new, Manage Add on window.
- Go to the middle left of the window and change the shown plugin to all.
- Then in the plugin list, scroll down to the Microsoft plugin section.
- If the Terminal Services Client ActiveX Control is enable disable it and close the browser. Come back to this screen and re enable the plugin and then close your browser again. If it is not enabled, enable it. And close your browser.
- Now when you load the browser up again, the plugin should be working and all is well.
One thing to note, depending on what options you chose when you were install IE8 the security policies might be kind of tight especially when you go to web sites with a self signed certificate. If your Remote Web Workplace is using SSL with a self signed cert, you will have to tell the browser to allow this site to work with the Terminal Services Client by the usual blue pop down alert that comes up when you try to get into your machine remotely.

Internet Explorer 8 seems to be better than any previous version of IE. IE8 is very stable and rarely crashes or cause blue screens.

this “fix” didn’t do squat for me.
